The SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust is proud to contribute to the local community of Hamilton and the wider Waikato region by supporting many worthy organisations, both large and small.

To date, the SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust has granted over NZ$7.9 million to more than 1,600 charitable organisations that have undertaken community assistance and development work in the greater Waikato area.

For the year ended 30 June 2017, SKYCITY Hamilton Limited contributed NZ$694,136 to the SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust.

The SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust is committed to supporting families to thrive and communities to prosper.

To achieve this, the Trust prioritises funding to organisations whose work will achieve one or more of the following outcomes:

  1. Financial Capability

Families are financially confident, independent and can mitigate debt and debt-causing behaviours.

  1. Employment and Economic Prosperity for Families

Families can generate their own income through the attainment and/or enhancement of work-related skills and training, enterprise and access to work.

  1. Pathways to Employment and Economic Prosperity

Young people are supported to thrive at every stage of their development towards a successful and prosperous adulthood.

Children, young people and families have access to education, are supported in educational pathways and achieve educational success.

  1. Healthy and Stable Families

Families develop attitudes, behaviours and skills that play a positive role in improving their health, safety and resilience.

Priority target groups

We prioritise funding to support the following target groups:

  1. Children, young people, single parents and/or those living in a low income household.
  2. Those living in areas of high deprivation across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
  3. Those with few or no qualifications, low literacy levels, and/or beneficiaries.

Roger FitzGerald


Roger Fitzgerald is an experienced Trust administrator having worked with Guardian Trust for 19 years administering Estates and Trusts.  Roger is currently the Branch Manager at Forsyth Barr in Hamilton and has been with this company as an Investment Advisor for almost 17 years.  He currently manages a few Charitable Trust Investment Portfolios.

Roger is active in the community and is a Trustee of the Hamilton Rotary Club Charitable Trust, The RotoArt Charitable Trust, Waikato Community Hospice Trust and the B & C Hewett Charitable Trust.

Roger enjoys running, cycling and outdoor activities and has a keen interest in local community organisations.

Jennifer Palmer


Jennifer Palmer brings significant funding experience with her current role as General Manger, Brian Perry Charitable Trust and previous experience as Grants Manager of the Perry Foundation.

Jennifer’s experience includes nine years in management roles spanning both grant-making and fundraising campaigns throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.

Marae Tukere


For the past five years Marae Tukere has held the role of Iwi and Community Partnerships Manager at Waikato District Council. Prior to this she worked for the Waikato-Tainui Tribe and spent many years with the Maori Land Court, most notably as the National Operations Manager.

Marae has gained extensive governance experience, sitting on a number of boards and committees throughout her career, and has developed a wide network in the Waikato area.  She is currently a member of Te Arataura, the Executive Board for Waikato Tainui Te Kauhanganui Inc. Her appointments have varied throughout her time with the Board ranging from Chair of the HR Committee through to a member of the Social and Economic Development Committee.

Marae is an analytical and strategic thinker with an ability to consistently achieve collective outcomes.

Grant Robson


Grant Robson is the Regional Manager, Small Business Centre, Hamilton for the BNZ.  He has over 25 years’ experience in managerial, banking positions and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Financial Planning from the University of Waikato, is a fellow of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance and holds a Diploma in Management.

President of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce, Grant is active in the Waikato community.  He also holds the position of Director of the Executive Committee EMA Waikato and has extensive experience in business mentoring and relationship building.

Grant is passionate about developing people through leading, coaching and supporting. He enjoys golf and cycling as well as home renovations and building solutions.

Keith Gallagher


Keith Gallagher works full time as an Electronics Engineers and is very passionate about adding value to the philanthropic space of the community. With this focus in mind, Keith has recently developed his trustee skills through several Institute of Director courses, particularly covering the fundamentals of governance.

Keith has notable experience in Trusts as he is currently a trustee for the Gallagher Charitable Trust, John and Glenice Foundation Trust and Gallagher family trusts.

Keith is married with three young children who keep him busy.

Bernadette Kirkham


Bernadette Kirkham is Marketing and Fundraising Manager for Hospice Waikato. In this role she manages a wide variety of fundraising events and initiatives. Her role also encompasses the organisation’s marketing and branding of its services and retail Hospice Shops, PR and patient communications.

Before joining Hospice in 2014, Bernadette was the Marketing Manager of the Waikato Times and has had over 30 years’ experience in the media.

Bernie is a past Trust member of the Hamilton Christmas Parade and the Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival, and was a committee member for the Hospice Building Appeal.

She has event-managed large events such as the Hospice Waikato Bucket List Banquet, The Waikato Times Food and Wine Festival, Waikato and Bay of Plenty Real Estate Awards and the Waikato Times Gold Cup.
