SKYCITY Stampede win fifth NZIHL championship
The SKYCITY Stampede roared home to their third consecutive New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) Championship and Birgel Cup win over the West Auckland Admirals!
The local Queenstown team is the most successful in the national competition’s history, having raised the NZIHL Championship trophy five times, and it’s also the only team in the NZIHL to have a corporate sponsor, SKYCITY Queenstown.
“What a season! Our challenge to retain the National Ice Hockey Championship and Birgel Cup, for the third consecutive year is successfully fulfilled,” says Niel Frear, General Manager, SKYCITY Stampede
“Thank you to SKYCITY Queenstown for the generous sponsorship over the last two seasons. The support is not something we take lightly and is very much appreciated by everyone connected with the club and team,” says Frear.
“SKYCITY Queenstown is proud to be backing our local team, the SKYCITY Stampede, through back-to-back NZIHL championships. Coming on board in 2016, we could not be prouder of how the team perform both on and off the ice. True champions,’ says Jono Browne, General Manager, SKYCITY Queenstown.
Throughout the season, SKYCITY crew welcomed avid fans to home games with giveaways, SKYCITY Cheerleaders entertained the crowds on the ice at games during the Winter Festival, and there were plenty of memories shared over games of Jingo at SKYCITY.
