MASU to Serve Lunch – Quick, Quality Japanese in Auckland CBD
Dining at MASU is usually an experience to savour over many courses, so launching an express lunch menu might seem a little yabai (crazy) - but from 14 May, award-winning chef Nic Watt is keen to upend tradition.
“We wanted to create something that was quick and delicious but still had that MASU magic. We’re talking light and crispy tempura, melt-in-your-mouth raw tuna, perfectly seared wagyu shabu-shabu beef, karaage chicken, pork katsu, and delicate eel.”
From $29.90, the all-new menu features flavourful donburi bowls and sashimi plates – perfect for power lunches, casual catch-ups, or treating the team.
The emphasis is on MASU’s modern take on donburi – hearty Japanese rice bowls, each served with white miso soup and housemade Japanese pickles. These donburis are rich in texture, deep in flavour, and unmistakably MASU.
The new lunch menu includes:
- Tempura prawns & seasonal vegetables, MASU furikake
- Assorted diced sashimi, yuzu and takuwan
- Spicy chicken, spring onion and toasted sobacha
- Tuna akami, spicy tekkadon sauce, kizami nori, ikura
- Crispy pork katsu, onion, soy egg and edamame
- Japanese grilled eel, toasted sesame and teriyaki
- Wagyu shabu-shabu, teriyaki, tenkasu and benishoga
Also available are MASU’s signature sashimi – served atsuzukuri (thick-cut style) – a refined selection of maki rolls, and a range of iconic sides, including Black Origin wagyu & kimchi gyoza and pickled cucumber with soy vinegar.
Diners who spend $40 or more between May and July will also receive free parking.
Lunch at MASU is available from 14 May. We recommend booking ahead, but walk-ins and takeaways are available.
