Sky Tower lands top spot on new MONOPOLY board

Auckland’s Sky Tower has landed the top spot on the new MONOPOLY New Zealand Edition.

The new board was unveiled at the Sky Tower yesterday, more than two decades after the last New Zealand edition of the iconic game was released. The Sky Tower holds the top dark-blue property, one of the game’s most sought-after spots.

Earlier this year, New Zealanders were invited to nominate the places they wanted to see represented. The final board features 22 destinations chosen by Kiwis, all the way from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

The Sky Tower appears alongside some of the country’s best-known destinations, including Milford Sound, Hobbiton, Lake Taupō, Cathedral Cove and Queenstown.

“The Sky Tower means different things to different people. It’s part of Auckland’s skyline, but it’s also connected to special memories for our guests,” SkyCity Chief Operating Officer Callum Mallett said.

“It might be a sunset dinner at Orbit 360°, facing your fears on the SkyRide, or seeing the Tower light up for a big event.”

“What makes us really proud is that Kiwis helped choose the places that made it onto the board. And, of course, landing on dark blue makes it even better.”

The New Zealand theme goes beyond the destinations featured in the game.

Players can make their way around Aotearoa using Kiwi-inspired tokens including a ute, surfboard and sheep, while the Chance and Community Chest cards capture familiar New Zealand moments and experiences.

The game features activities from across the country, from bungy jumping and jet boating to Ag Days and vineyard visits.

Kiwis can get their hands on the new board, with the MONOPOLY New Zealand Edition now available.
