SKYCITY’S Festival of Poker Underway
14 Oct 2009
At midday today, after a traditional Maori welcome, the words: “Dealers, shuffle up and deal” will be spoken, kicking off New Zealand’s most prestigious poker tournament, the SKYCITY Festival of Poker.
In today’s flight 130 players will take to the felt and battle their way into securing a place on Day 2 of this event.
SKYCITY’s Executive Manager Table Games, Ejaaz Dean is excited that the Festival of Poker has returned for another year.
“To be able to bring back this world-class event to the international poker scene and especially to the New Zealand domestic players, proves SKYCITY has what it takes to be a world class poker facility.
“It would be great to see another New Zealander out play all our international players and take out the SKYCITY Festival of Poker in 2009.”
The five day main event will see SKYCITY Auckland Casino transformed into a poker players paradise, with players from all across the world participating in the SKYCITY Festival of Poker. International poker players Tony Hachem and Celina Lin along with many more will be rubbing shoulders with local players in a bid to take out the top prize.
With a prize pool estimated to hit $1 Million dollars, this year’s tournament is due to put the 2009 SKYCITY Festival of Poker into the record books for the largest tournament in New Zealand history.
