SKYCITY brings the Festive Season to Auckland

Celebrate the 2009 festive season in style with SKYCITY Auckland. Running since 9 November 2009 until 9 January 2010 SKYCITY has an array of activities and promotions at all its venues to help everyone and anyone in Auckland celebrate the festive season.
From the beginning of November SKYCITY’s Auckland site has been decorated to get visitors in the mood for the upcoming festive season. Decorations including SKYCITY’s 9 metre high Christmas tree in the main atrium.
SKYCITY Group Marketing Manager, Kevin Clayton is enthusiastic about the upcoming festive season.

Sky Tower for adults
For that special someone the Sky Tower will be running Christmas Cocktails in the Sky. Bring along a loved one or a few friends and enjoy festive bubble and cocktail specials while watching the sun set over the Waitakere Ranges.
Guests will be entertained with live entertainment from renowned Wellington singer/songwriter Jamie Burgess. As the sun sets viewers will be able to see the lights of Auckland creating the ultimate Christmas light show.
Christmas Cocktails in the Sky will run every Wednesday through Sunday from 1–24 December, 5:00pm - 9:00pm in the Sky Lounge.
Sky Tower for kids
‘Santa in the Sky’ will be running for all the children who want to meet the jolly man himself. Santa will be up on Sky Deck in Santa’s Grotto where children can receive a free photo on Santa’s knee and post their letters to Santa at the highest post box in the Sky. Santa’s friends including Scotty Sky Tower will also be up on Sky Deck to entertain children.
Santa in the Sky will run from 8:30am until 4:00pm every weekend in December and ever day from 21 – 24 December. As a special offer one child will get free admission to the Sky Tower with every full paying adult.
Restaurants and Bars
SKYCITY’s 20 bars and restaurants will be offering an array of packages and specials for everyone who comes to SKYCITY this festive season. Some of the great offers on offer include a 2-4-1 signature cocktail between 5pm-7pm at twentyone, a free glass of wine with any tapas between 4pm and 5pm at Bellota, $3.00 Lion Red pints between 5pm-6pm at Sammy’s Place and a festive season menu for lunch and dinner at Fortuna.
Entertainment
Throughout December on Wednesdays till Sunday Christmas Carols will be performed at various points around the SKYCITY site. Performances will start under the Christmas tree in the atrium, moving to Level 3 and onto the Main Observation deck of the Sky Tower. On Christmas day there will also be Santas roaming the site to entertain restaurant guests.
Casino
During the festive season the SKYCITY Casino is running two great promotions including ‘Pick A Prize’ were winners get the chance to pick a $5000 prize. Also returning to the casino will be Sweepstakes with the prizes starting at $20,000 and increasing every week it is not won. For those preferring table games, SKYCITY is running a Baccarat promotion giving players the chance to win a share of $20,000.
SKYCITY Cinemas
Throughout this festive season SKYCITY Cinemas are running two promotions. See Avatar at SKYCITY Cinemas and go in the draw to win a Kumuka Adventure to Borneo. Avatar releases in 2D and 3D at all SKYCITY Cinemas on December 17. See it on the biggest screen in New Zealand – in IMAX 3D. Also come to SKYCITY Cinemas and see The Wiggles Live via Satellite from Sydney on 20 December at Albany and St Lukes. This is the first time SKYCITY Cinemas have done a live via satellite show. They will be performing in Sydney live, with one show only at the two cinemas.
Theatre
During the festive season the SKYCITY Theatre is hosting shows which will entertain the young and old. The Auckland Theatre Company presents ‘Oliver’ which runs from 29 October until 29 November. The Christmas Comedy Gala is on the 4-5 of December and will be recorded for TV2. It is a popular show and will sell out fast! SKYCITY is also hosting comedy shows including five sold out Rhys Darby shows from the 7-11 December and Tim Minchin on 12 December.
New Years Eve
New Year’s Eve at SKYCITY is Auckland’s biggest party! There will be entertainment throughout the SKYCITY site including Halo, Party Dolls, Chris Powley and the fabulous Frankie Stevens. Just before the stroke of midnight Frankie Stevens will begin the countdown to 2010 ending in an impressive fireworks display from the Sky Tower which will be seen all across Auckland!
