SKYCITY Cinemas, Sony Pictures, LG and The New Zealand Herald Teaming Up With Helping Hearts To Help Out a Couple in Need
21 Aug 2009
SKYCITY Cinemas, Sony Pictures, LG and The New Zealand Herald are teaming up with Helping Hearts to help out a couple in need. Chris Gordon and his wife Sheera have faced huge challenges which started two years ago when Chris was diagnosed with cancer and myositis. At Christmas Chris had to leave his job and endure four rounds of chemotherapy.
With two children, including one infant, Chris and Sheera have been battling for Chris’s life amidst difficult circumstances. When The New Zealand Herald, Sony Pictures, LG and SKYCITY heard about the couple’s plight they got together to plan a fundraising movie screening in support of the couple who are facing financial hurdles after Sheera had to leave work to look after Chris and their new baby.
‘The Ugly Truth’ featuring Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Gerard Butler (P.S. I Love You) will screen at 7pm on August 26 at the SKYCITY Cinema complex in Queen Street with tickets on sale for $25 with all proceeds going to the couple. Doors open at 5:30pm for a charity auction to raise even more money for Mr and Mrs Gordon. The ticket price also includes a complementary glass of wine.
SKYCITY Cinemas General Manager Jane Hastings is pleased that SKYCITY Cinemas is able to help Mr and Mrs Gordon by helping raise funds to help ease their financial strain.
“We encourage people to purchase tickets, bid on amazing items in the auction and come along for a great night of entertainment for a worthy cause.”
Chris has been taken off a drug that was being used to see if it would slow the spread of the cancer down, as it has not worked. The cancer has spread through most of his body and as a result Chris is unable to walk some days.
Tickets can be purchased from the SKYCITY Cinemas website www.skycitycinemas.co.nz or www.healpinghearts.co.nz or from the Queen Street cinema complex.
