SKYCITY Celebrates Chinese Moon Festival

17 Sep 2009

Moon worshipers can celebrate in style at SKYCITY in the lead up to the popular Chinese harvest festival, the Moon Festival, this year taking place on 3 October 2009.

Dating back over 3,000 years to the Shang Dynasty, the Moon Festival celebrates a date that parallels the autumn and spring equinoxes of the solar calendar when the moon is at its fullest and roundest.

From 21 September, SKYCITY will be offering Moon Festival specials and themed dining experiences in outlets around the SKYCITY complex. On 3 October, the Sky Tower will stay open until midnight, providing moon worshipers the closest point to the moon in the Southern Hemisphere.  A celebratory atmosphere will be created by traditional Chinese decorations and entertainment around SKYCITY and moon cakes, an important part of celebrations. The Chinese Moon Goddess will be at SKYCITY on 3 October visiting guests at Ming Court and the Sky Tower.

SKYCITY Group General Manager of Marketing, Kevin Clayton says SKYCITY is looking forward to the celebrations. “We are excited to be joining the Chinese community in celebrating this important festival and bringing SKYCITY alive with entertainment in the lead up to 3 October, together with our special celebrations that night in the Sky Tower and Ming Court.  We look forward to welcoming and honouring our Chinese guests during the Moon Festival.”
