SKYCITY CINEMAS TO RELEASE CHINESE 60TH ANNIVERSARY FILM

As part of its ongoing Cinema Asia programming SKYCITY Cinemas have announced the exclusive release of The Founding Of A Republic (Jian Guo Da Ye ) on China National Day 1 October 2009.
 
The bio pic that charts the ascendency of Chairman Mao and the founding of modern China was funded by the state-owned China Film Group, to celebrate China’s 60th Anniversary of China’s Communist revolution.
 
The film hosts a galaxy of Chinese stars including Jackie Chan, Jet Li  and Zhang Ziyi who lent their services to the film in support of the 60th Anniversary celebrations. The film chronicles the birth of Communist China through Mao’s defeat of the Nationalist forces of Chiang Kai Shek in fierce battles between 1945-49.
 
The Founding Of A Republic will play at SKYCITY Cinema locations Queen St, St Lukes and Highland Park.  Demand is expected to be so high, by the local Auckland Chinese population that the film will screen on the large 450 seat Megascreen at SKYCITY Cinemas Queen St.

The film debuted in China on 17 September this year and set a record for a film’s first day in China taking $US2.2million in its first 9 hours of release. It also achieved a record in the number of locations, screening at some 1450 screens throughout China.

Commenting further the Secretary-General of the United Chinese Association of NZ , Jim He said “It will be such a pleasure for all Chinese pleasure to watch this fantastic film with close to 100 major Chinese film starts participating. It brings history to live and closes the time gap between now and 60 years ago. It is going to be colourful and cheerful film, add extra joy to the celebration of 60th Anniversary of founding of the People’s Republic of China. Thanks to SKYCITY Cinema for screening this film at the right time”
 
As an added bonus SKYCITY Cinemas will be screening the four minute music video Aotearoa Jasmine prior to each screening of “The Founding Of A Republic’.

The music video features over 600 New Zealanders from all walks of life performing China’s best-loved folk song “Jasmine Flower” or Mo Li Hua at iconic locations in Auckland and other centres. The video was made celebrate the friendship which has fostered for more than 50 years between China and “NZ China Friendship Society” and is a special gift for the 60th birthday of the People’s Republic of China.
 
SKYCITY Cinemas launched Cinema Asia in December 2008 and has to date released exclusively over 18 Asian films, most of them releasing the same day and date as their home country.
