With both Flights now complete at the 2009 SKYCITY NZPT Festival of Poker Main Event, 130 players will be passing through to Day 2 which commences today at 12:15 pm.

A total number of 263 players entered the 2009 SKYCITY NZPT Festival of Poker Main Event, rocketing the total prize pool for the main event to a healthy $789,000.00 NZD. The top 32 players will be paid in this event with $5,523.00 NZD, the minimum payout while the winner of the NZPT Main Event will walk away with over $200,000.00 NZD on Sunday night.

The two Flights proved an exciting watch with an early departure of Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson, Brooke Howard-Smith and Radio Sport morning host D’Arcy Waldegrave. While international players Emad Tahtouh, Celina Lin, Grant Levy, Tony Hachem and Eric Assadourian are still in contention.

Tahtouh was the chip stack leader for Day 1 Flight 1 and is overall chip leader going into Day 2. The chip stack leader for Flight 2 was New Zealander, Lance Climo with $134,400 in chips.

SKYCITY Executive Manager Table Games, Ejaaz Dean is pleased that the prize pool for the main event has reached over three quarters of a million dollars.

“For the main event prize pool to reach over three quarters of a million dollars and the winner to walk away with over $200,000.00 NZD shows that SKYCITY can provide one of the biggest poker tournaments in New Zealand history.

“Over the eight days the SKYCITY Festival of Poker will run, SKYCITY will give away over one million dollars in prize money over an assortment of events.”

Over 27 countries have been represented at this year’s SKYCITY Festival of Poker confirming that the interest is phenomenally worldwide.
