Over $10,000 Raised For Couple at SKYCITY Cinemas Charity Screening
31 Aug 2009
A fundraising screening of ‘The Ugly Truth’ on 26 August at SKYCITY Cinema Queen Street saw $11,025.00 raised for Chris and Sheera Gordon who have been facing extraordinary challenges.
SKYCITY Cinemas in partnership with The New Zealand Herald, Sony Pictures, LG and Helping Hearts got together to help raise funds for Chris and Sheera.
Over 200 people bought tickets for $25 to see the advanced screening of ‘The Ugly Truth’ featuring Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Gerard Butler (P.S. I Love You), with all proceeds from the screening going to the Gordon family.
As well as ticket sales, an auction with items including signed sports clothing, V8 hot laps, heat pump systems and a night at the SKYCITY Grand Hotel contributed $6270.00
The money raised for Chris and Sheera will go towards paying off medical bills and helping Sheera and her two children.
The huge challenges started two years ago when Chris was diagnosed with cancer and myositis. At Christmas Chris had to leave his job and endure four rounds of chemotherapy. During this time Sheera had to leave work to look after Chris and their new baby.
When The New Zealand Herald, Sony Pictures, LG, SKYCITY and Helping Hearts heard about the couple’s plight they got together to plan a fundraising movie screening in support of the couple.
SKYCITY Cinemas General Manager Jane Hastings is pleased that SKYCITY Cinemas was able to help Mr. and Mrs. Gordon by raising funds to help ease their financial strain.
“The night was a wonderful success, with many businesses and people coming together to help out this deserving couple in need.”
