New Zealand's Most Anticipated Poker Tournament Only Four Weeks Away!

24 Sep 2009

SKYCITY Festival of Poker runs from 10-18 October

In less than four weeks, SKYCITY Auckland will be overrun with professional and amateur poker players. They will converge on SKYCITY for one reason and one reason only, to try to take home the title of the most anticipated tournament on the New Zealand poker calendar, the SKYCITY Festival of Poker.

Running from 10-18 October, the SKYCITY Festival of Poker with the NZPT Auckland as the main event is hoping to break its own record from 2008 as New Zealand’s biggest ever poker tournament, aiming for a $1 million prize pool. Already over 150 players are confirmed, which guarantees nearly a half a million dollar prize pool so far. The prize pool is sure to get pulses racing amongst the field of poker pros and amateurs.

This year’s tournament will see the return of some of the world’s best international players, including; New Zealand’s Lee Nelson, Australians Grant Levy, Eric Assadourian, Tony Hachem, Emad Tahtouh and Celina Lin. The NZPT gives domestic players the chance to compete against some of the world’s best poker stars.

Poker has taken over the table game world, transforming it into a sport which is shown on ESPN, Ejaaz Dean, SKYCITY Auckland’s Executive Manager - Table Games, says he feels it is time New Zealand unearthed its own poker champions.

“Lee Nelson is a great ambassador for New Zealand poker, and we look forward to discovering other players of his calibre throughout the SKYCITY Festival of Poker.

“To be holding the second annual NZPT tournament is important for New Zealand poker, and we’re proud to be promoting the thrill and glamour of the sport in New Zealand. This is a great opportunity to see local champions play their hands against international stars and hopefully see a New Zealander taking home the prize for the second year running.”

There are satellite tournaments for entry into New Zealand’s biggest ever poker tournament, being held by casinos and pub poker leagues nationwide. For more information on how you can take on the world’s best poker players, visit www.festivalofpoker.co.nz.
