Enjoy the Gala Ball While You Work
21 Jul 2010
The finishing touches are being put on plans for the Gala Ball just 10 days away.
This year it will be a show not to miss, with Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden headlining the entertainment line up. Unsurpassed as Darwin‟s social event of the year, 2010 will be no exception.
The Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball is about elegance. It is an opportunity for men and women to dress in their finest and if you only attend one social event this year, do it in style. SKYCITY chefs have planned a sumptuous feast to be laid out on 54 individual buffets. (If they were all joined together they would stretch nearly half a kilometre).
4000 plated entrees will be prepared and it will take military precision to ensure they arrive just prior to the guests. SKYCITY is employing hundreds of extra people to make it all happen. They are recruiting over 600 extra staff for all areas of the event including staff to set up; chefs, cooks and kitchen assistants to deliver the finest buffet ever seen in the Territory; runners and stewards to assist on the night; people to work the bars; and staff to wait the tables.
Supervisor Michelle Carter who has worked at the Gala Ball for the past 3 years says “It‟s fantastic to be a part of such an amazing event. Seeing it grow from an empty space to a magnificent sea of beautiful tables and decorations”. Michelle says “it‟s almost like not working, because you get to enjoy the great music and enjoy the incredible spectacle. The atmosphere just buzzes”.
In charge of overseeing the Gala Ball, Assistant General Manager Emmanuel Cruz says “Our staff is an integral part of the event and they are the ones that ensure the guests have a night to remember”.
SKYCITY Human Resources Manager Sandra Black says “If you would like to make some extra cash, you don‟t need experience; we can train you and give you the skills you need to work on the night”. She says “there‟s a range of opportunities for those who are keen to be a part of such a spectacular event.”
If you‟d like to join the team for the night, visit the SKYCITY Human Resources department anytime during business hours on weekdays, and between 10am and 6pm this Saturday and Sunday.
Australia‟s largest outdoor seated dinner is being held this year on the newly created lawns of Little Mindil. The Myilly Point escarpment will be the backdrop for this "must attend‟ event overlooking the Arafura Sea. The scene is set for a perfect celebration to Darwin‟s Cup Carnival.
