Adelaide Casino’s $5 million sparkling revamp

27 Nov 2009

The grandeur and elegance of yesteryear is returning to Adelaide Casino with a more than $5 million redevelopment of Marble Hall, including an impressive custom-built chandelier weighing almost a tonne.

Marble Hall is currently undergoing a transformation with the arrival of table games such as Blackjack,

Three-card Poker and Roulette to the 19th century hall and a glamorous new Chandelier Bar, which features Adelaide’s largest chandelier.

Adelaide Casino General Manager, David Christian, says the project’s design brief was to bring glamour back to the historic space known as Marble Hall and provide an opulent bar for revelers to enjoy 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

“The architecture and interior design group, Webb+ have been conscious of the historical features of the hall and tapped into the elegancy of some of Europe’s grandest casinos for inspiration,” he said.

“The chandelier will definitely provide the ‘wow’ factor in the new space, hanging over the new bar, which is named after the grand feature.

“The chandelier, which measures 7.2m in diameter, is a collaborative effort between Webb+, Custom Lighting, Norman Disney and Young (NDY) Light, and is made up of 2029 glass bubbles of varying sizes that were hand blown in Italy.

Mr Christian said the project was part of the Casino’s continuing commitment to Adelaide and celebration of its ongoing success.

“We listened to our patrons when we recently decided to change our name back to Adelaide Casino.  Marble Hall is our gift back to Adelaideans, providing them with a stylish experience that can be enjoyed at any time of day or night,” he said.

“We know how much Adelaideans loved the chandeliers that originally hung in Marble Hall and wanted to bring back that charm and style for them,” Mr Christian said.

When the Casino first opened in 1985 it had three large chandeliers, each made up of 27,000 crystals and 90 globes, which now light the North Terrace entrance to the Casino.

The Chandelier Bar and Marble Hall gaming area is expected to open the week before Christmas.

“It will be a great space for people to enjoy a festive drink from the sophisticated beverage list designed by seasoned barman and mixologist, Patrick Allan, share a delectable tapas plate from our celebrated chef from North, Ross Hannah, play a few table games or simply sit back and take it all in,” Mr Christian said.
